“Blues and the Abstract Truth” is a highly acclaimed jazz album released in 1961, and is considered a landmark recording in the realm of post-bop and features an all-star lineup of musicians led by the saxophonist Oliver Nelson. The music is a fusion of the blues, a deeply rooted African American musical form, with more complex musical ideas and intricate harmonies. The album’s innovative compositions and superb performances have made it a classic.

SRJO is also excited to feature two new works by Michael Brockman: “The Acox Ramble”(written in tribute to SRJO co-founder Clarence Acox) and “Summertime Blues” featuring vocalist Jacqueline Tabor.

Thanks for a Great First Half of the 2023-24 Season!

We started off the season with a concert showcasing SRJO favorites of the past, featuring Jacqueline Tabor. Our audience was then treated to one of the most exciting guest artists when Anat Cohen joined us in November.  Finally, at the end of December we were honored to once again perform at the Earshot Jazz co-production of Duke Ellington's Sacred Concert. We hope to see everyone again during the second half of our 29th season.
