Tribute to Stan Kenton |
|
Saturday, June 20, 2009 7:30 PM
Nordstrom Recital Hall/Benaroya Hall
Sunday, June 21, 2009 3:00 PM
Kirkland Performance Center
The SRJO plays a concert tribute to Stan Kenton, one of the most innovative composers and band leaders of the 20th Century.
Kenton's unique sound as a composer and band leader emerged during the 1950s as part of the West Coast "cool school" that
combined contemporary European techniques with the harmonies, improvisation and swinging beat of jazz.
Featured works include Artistry in Rhythm, Opus in Pastels, The End of a Love Affair, Intermission Riff, and selections from the
Cuban Fire Suite. As a special highlight, guest soloists from award-winning high school jazz programs in the
Seattle area will be featured.
